Jung’s Collective Unconscious

Jung’s Collective Unconscious?

What I would call insights in the more literal sense come from within. But are there mysteries of a more general sort, shared across a Collective Unconscious?

“The collective unconscious contains the whole spiritual heritage of mankind’s evolution born anew in the brain structure of every individual.”

Carl Jung

Carl Gustav Jung (1981). “The Collected Works of C. G. Jung: Structure and dynamics of the psyche”

“The underlying, primary psychic reality is so inconceivably complex that it can be grasped only at the farthest reach of intuition, and then but very dimly. That is why it needs symbols.”

Carl Jung

Carl Gustav Jung, Herbert Read, R. F.C. Hull (1954). “The practice of psychotherapy”, Bollingen

“In each of us is another whom we do not know. He speaks to us in dreams and tells us how differently he sees us from the way we see ourselves.”

Carl Jung

Carl Gustav Jung, Herbert Read, Michael Fordham, Gerhard Adler (1964). “Civilization in transition”

“Intuition is perception via the unconscious that brings forth ideas, images, new possibilities and ways out of blocked situations.”

” We should not pretend to understand the world only by the intellect. The judgement of the intellect is only part of the truth.”

Carl Jung

“Psychological Types: Or, The Psychology of Individuation”. Book by Carl Jung. Conclusion, p. 628, 1921.

“Without this playing with fantasy, no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.”

C.G. Jung writes:

The dynamic principle of fantasy is play, a characteristic also of the child, and as such it appears inconsistent with the principle of serious work. But without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable (1921/1990, par. 93). *

Intuition [is] perception via the unconscious. ~Carl Jung;

“The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious”, 1950 “Reason alone does not suffice.”

“Intuition does not say what things ‘mean’ but sniffs out their possibilities. Meaning is given by thinking.”

Carl Jung, Jung-Kirsch Letters, Page 21

We have forgotten the age-old fact that God speaks chiefly through dreams and visions.

Carl Jung

Carl Gustav Jung (2012). “Man and His Symbols”, p.133, Dell

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart … Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.

The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul, which opens to that primeval cosmic night that was soul long before there was conscious ego and will be soul far beyond what a conscious ego could ever reach.”

Carl Jung

Memories, Dreams, Reflections ch. 11 (1962)

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

Carl Gustav Jung (1973). “Letters”
